At 10:30 on December 9, 2024, two fire engines from Hyndburn and Great Harwood responded to a gas leak at a block of terraced houses on Lomax Street in Great Harwood. Residents were evacuated, and ten members of the public were checked over by the North West Ambulance Service. Fire crews, working alongside Cadent Gas, used a gas monitor to assess gas levels in the area and surrounding properties. The area was deemed safe after a period of monitoring. Crews were on the scene for one hour and thirty minutes.
