Four fire engines from Blackburn, Chorley, Darwen and Hyndburn were called to a fire involving a large quantity of waste close to Grimshaw Park, Blackburn at 18:35. Due to the quantity of thick smoke coming from the site, people who can see or smell the smoke are advised to keep windows and doors shut whilst firefighters extinguish the fire. Firefighters are expected to be at the scene for most of the night.
Update at 4:30am - firefighters are still working to extinguish the fire and they will remain at the scene into later this morning at the earliest. As a result, Grimshaw Park will be closed this morning.
Update: at 7.08am - One fire engine remains on site, Firefighters are continuing to damp down and monitor the temperature.
