We are recruiting on-call firefighters

We are currently recruiting on-call firefighters at stations across Lancashire. Recruitment opens on Monday,17th June, with training courses starting on 11th and 25th November 2024.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, including self-employed tradespeople, stay-at-home parents, and employees of both small and large businesses.

As an on-call firefighter, you'll have a variety of responsibilities such as responding to emergency calls, supporting community needs, and providing safety advice. In return, we offer flexibility to balance with your study, work, and family commitments, along with top-quality training and development opportunities.

Joining the fire service means becoming part of a close-knit team, earning extra income, and receiving comprehensive training to develop transferable skills. We strive to reflect the diversity of our communities and encourage everyone to apply.

Anyone who meets the entry criteria and can respond to the station within the required time is welcome. Whether you have a full-time job, are unemployed, or need a role that fits around childcare, being an on-call firefighter can suit different lifestyles.

You don’t need any qualifications, but there’s a selection process that will mean you need to pass some physical and practical tests and a medical. Before you decide to apply you need to make sure that you:

  • Are aged over 18.

  • Have a good level of all-round fitness.

  • Live or work within five minutes, or in some instances, eight minutes.

  • Have a good standard of eyesight and hearing that is acceptable to carry out the firefighter role. This can be aided or unaided.

  • Have the enthusiasm, time and commitment to participate fully in this essential emergency service.
